Carrying the right kit is vital. I still remember the first ever back packing trip I made when I was a student many years ago. We both filled a 60 litre sack each and struggled! Now-a-days kit is lighter and more compact too. Here is our Kit List for the Lysefjord Trek.
Personal Kit
- Rab Merino tops (one short-sleeved, one long)
- Rab Microlight Jacket (Primaloft)
- Lightweight shorts and trousers
- Waterproofs
- Underwear (I found some bamboo ones on ebay!)
- Walking socks
- Keen flip-flops
- Meindl fabric walking boots
- Basic Toiletries
- Drinking cup
- Spork
- Sleeping bag and sheet sleeping bag
- Thermarest
- Water Bladder (didn’t need them – see below)
- Drinking Cups (Norwegians have a special scoop-shaped cup called a tur kopp? – Ours were plastic not the traditional wood and came with a small carabiner to attach to your rucksack. Remember you can drink for any stream in Norway still – good clean and wholesome water)
Shared Kit
- Gas Burner and gas canisters (the latter we bought in Intersport in Stavanger as we couldn’t take them with us)
- Trangia Kettle
- Mountain House Breakfast and evening meals (all fine expect the Mixed vegetable pasta)
- Cupasoups, energy bars for lunch
- Tea bags
- Ultimate “Pea Pod 2” tent
